Ordinarily, Jayhawk West women's basketball teams will have two nights off during the conference season.

With the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team's first off night coming so soon after the holiday break, the Blue Dragons saved their final of nine non-conference games for Wednesday night.

The No. 4-ranked Blue Dragons will play host to the Bethany College Junior Varsity at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports Arena.

There will be no live radio broadcast of the game, but the Blue Dragon Sports Network will provide a live video stream beginning at 5:20 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action.

The Blue Dragons (13-1) enter Wednesday's game on a seven-game winning streak after an 81-51 victory over the Allen Red Devils on Saturday at the Sports Arena. The Blue Dragons led just 42-30 with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter and closed the period on a 16-4 run. Hutchinson scored 39 points in the final 14 minutes to pull away.

Sophomore Abby Ogle posted her second career double-double with 23 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to go with seven steals and two assists. That performance earned Ogle the Jayhawk Conference Division I Women's Player of the Week award on Tuesday.

The 2019-20 Blue Dragons have become very adept at dominating the opening quarter.

Hutch has led after one quarter in 11 of 14 games thus far, outscoring its opponents by 124 total points. The Blue Dragons have built leads of 10 or more points after one quarter in eight games, limiting opponents to an average of 11.8 points scored and just 29.9 percent overall shooting.

The Bethany women's program is under the guidance of former Blue Dragon assistant coach Keith Ferguson, who was on the Hutch bench in the 2011-12 season. Ferguson won't be at the arena because the Bethany varsity also plays on Wednesday with a home conference game against Tabor College.

The Blue Dragons are 33-0 all-time against the Bethany junior varsity, including 26-0 at the Sports Arena. The Dragons had a school record unanswered scoring run of 44-0 against Bethany in 2009.

Altogether, the Blue Dragons are 87-1 all-time against Kansas Conference junior varsity teams in program history. The only loss came to the Tabor College JV on November 26, 1991, a 58-54 setback, The Dragons are 20-0 all-time in the John Ontjes era.

The Blue Dragons continue to march toward milestone program win No. 1,000. The win over Allen on Saturday was all-time win No. 989.
