Hutchinson CC Sports Information
Dejanae Roebuck and Jada Mickens have been intertwined since their first games in the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball program.
They were bookend starting forwards since their Dragon debuts on November 1, 2017 against the Bethany College JV. They both rank in the Top 20 on Hutchinson's career scoring list and No. 10 on the Blue Dragon career rebound list.
They were part of two national tournament qualifying teams, including a national semifinal appearance this season. Now Roebuck and Mickens close their Blue Dragon careers as NJCAA All-Americans.
Roebuck was named to the 2019 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball All-America third team on Monday. Mickens was an honorable mention selection. The Blue Dragon due are the 14th and 15th All-Americans in program history.
This is the sixth-straight season a Blue Dragon women's player has appeared on the NJCAA All-America team.
This is the fourth time the Blue Dragons have had a pair of players on the same All-America team – Laura Patrick and Jackie Patterson in 2012, Jamie Patrick and Kalani Purcell in 2014, and Inja Butina and Kirea Rogers in 2016 were the others seasons with two players.
DEJANAE ROEBUCK – 3rd Team
The 6-foot forward from Olathe is the third third-team All-American in Blue Dragon history. She was 33-4 Hutchinson's leading scorer at 15.0 points per game, the seventh-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference. She was 12th in the league in rebounding at 7.3 rebounds per game.
Roebuck ranked fifth in the KJCCC in field-goal percentage at 50.3 percent and was seventh in the league in free-throw percentage at 79.2 percent.
The Blue Dragon forward had a team-high nine double-doubles with a career-high 26 points against the Washburn University JV on November 17. /She had a season-high 14 rebounds against Northwest Tech on Feb. 6.
Roebuck's 555 total points scored ranked seventh on the Blue Dragon single-season scoring list. She was 10th in single-season history in made field goals (197) and eighth in made free throws (137).
Roebuck completed her Blue Dragon career as the sixth all-team leading scorer in team history with 998 points. She is the No. 3 all-time rebounder in Hutchinson women's history with 582 boards. Roebuck also ranks sixth on the career free throw list (236), ninth in rebounding average (9.2 rebounds per game) and 10th in total field goals (359).
JADA MICKENS – Honorable Mention
The 6-foot forward from Liberal became only the third Blue Dragon in team history to earn All-America honors in both seasons at Hutchinson. Mickens was an honorable mention selection as a freshman in 2018.
Mickens joins Heather Robben (2009-10) and Kalani Purcell (2014-15) as Hutch women's basketball's only two-time All-Americans.
Mickens was Hutchinson's third-leading scorer at 11.0 points per game. She also averaged 6.2 rebounds and 0.86 blocked shots per game. Her 31 blocks were 10th in the KJCCC.
Mickens ranked third in the Jayhawk in field-goal percentage at 53.4 percent and tied Roebuck for seventh in the league in free-throw percentage at 79.2 percent.
The Blue Dragon forward had one double-double and posted a season high of 21 points at Garden City on Feb. 9. She had a season-high 13 rebounds in the NJCAA Tournament opener against Western Nebraska on March 18. Mickens posted career highs of 34 points and 20 rebounds – those performances were in different games – in her freshman season.
Mickens closed her Blue Dragon career ranked eighth on the all-time rebound list (517), sixth in career blocked shots (71), 11th in all-time free throws (171) and 17th on the career scoring list (854 points).
