LUBBOCK, Texas – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team will have to defend a much different style of opponent when the Blue Dragons play their NJCAA National Tournament second-round game on Wednesday.

Monday's opening-round opponent, Western Nebraska, was a team that liked to shoot the 3-pointer. Wednesday's second-round foe, Angelina College, is a team that definitely things inside first.

The No. 8 ranked the 13th-seeded Blue Dragons will play the No. 14-ranked and fourth overall seed Angelina at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rip Griffin Center. The game will be broadcast live on Hutchinson radio station KHMY-FM (93.1) with Steve Carpenter calling the action at 1:50 p.m. The game will be video streamed by NJCAATV (njcaatv.com). Those game are pay-per-view.

The Blue Dragons will have their No. 6 nationally ranked defense put to the test again when they have the task of stopping the nation's No. 2 leading scorer in 6-foot-4 sophomore center Natasha Mack. Mack is average 23.8 points per game while shooting 59 percent from the floor. She averaged a double-double at 11.6 rebounds per game.

Angelina (29-3), the Region XIV champion, also has 6-1 sophomore forward Mia Perkins. Between Mack and Perkins, the Lady Roadrunners get 33.8 points and 20.3 rebounds. Mack and Perkins also make up the foundation for the second-best shot blocking team in the NJCAA. The Roadrunners average 6.4 rejections per game.

On Monday, the Blue Dragons (31-3) snapped a three-game NJCAA Tournament losing streak and won in Lubbock for the first time after an opening-round 81-60 victory over No. 20 seed Western Nebraska. The Cougars were held 30 points under their season scoring average of 90 points. Merle Wiehl was the NJCAA's third-leading scorer. She finished with 17 points, but the Blue Dragons frustrated her to 7 of 19 overall shooting and only 3 of 13 from 3-point range.

Hutchinson freshmen Makayla Vannett and Abby Ogle both produced career games on Monday.

Vannett knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers and finished with a career-best 20 points. She moved into seventh place on the Blue Dragon single-season 3-point list with 85. Ogle had a career-high 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting.

Also on Monday, sophomore Dejanae Roebuck moved past Kim Gwinner (1986-88) into sixth place on the Blue Dragon career scoring list with 965 points. Sophomore Jada Mickens became 11th Blue Dragon ever to reach 500 career rebounds.

Wednesday's meeting will be the first ever between Hutchinson and Angelina.

The Lady Roadrunners dominated their Region XIV final against Tyler defeating the Apaches 60-39. Angelina has won eight games in a row and wound up earning one of the Top 8 national seeds that received a first-round tournament bye.

Angelina's only losses have come to Trinity Valley twice and Tyler.
