Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team closes out a stretch of four games in eight days on Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.

No. 10 Hutchinson will play the Dodge City Conquistadors at 5:30 p.m. in a rematch of a 30-point Blue Dragon win three weeks ago.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:25 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Rusty Hilst (analysis) calling the action. The game will also be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 5:25 p.m.

Hutchinson has defeated Northwest Tech, Garden City and Pratt in the first three legs of the week-long stretch. After decisive wins over the Mavericks and Broncbusters, the Blue Dragons weren't able to put Pratt away until the fourth quarter in a 75-62 win at the Beaverdome.

The victory kept Hutchinson in a first-place tie with No. 6 Seward County at 16-1 with four games remaining in the regular season.

Monday's win also moved Blue Dragon head coach John Ontjes into a tie for fifth place with Darin Spence on the all-time Jayhawk Conference and Region VI coaching wins list with 339.

Dodge City (13-13) finds itself in a battle for the final Jayhawk West home spot for the Region VI Tournament. The Conquistadors are 8-9 and are in fifth place in the league. Dodge City trailed Pratt by one game for the fourth spot. The Top four teams from both the Jayhawk West and Jayhawk East earn opening-round regional home games with the league championships earning opening-round byes.

After dropping 6 of 7, the Conquistadors were coming on strong with four-straight wins over the loser half of the Jayhawk West. Dodge has lost two in a row to Barton and Seward County, falling to the Saints 68-55 on Monday night.

The Blue Dragons won the first meeting with Dodge City on January 23 in Dodge City, 65-35. The Dragons lead 29-21 at halftime, but outscored the Conquistadors 36-14 in the second half.

Dejanae Roebuck and Makayla Vannett had 15 points each to lead the Blue Dragons. Vannett knocked down 4 of 6 from 3-point range. The Blue Dragons were limited to 39.3 percent from the field. Haleigh Hill had eight points to lead Dodge City, which shot a frigid 20 percent overall.

Wednesday's meeting will be the 95th all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Dodge City. The Blue Dragons lead the all-time series 67-27.
