GARDEN CITY – The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball head coach John Ontjes earned his 100th all-time road win on Saturday as the Blue Dragons shot nearly 60 percent in a blowout win of Garden City.

Hutchinson maintained its share of first place in the Jayhawk West with a dominant 95-53 victory over Garden City at Conestoga Arena to complete the season sweep of the Broncbusters.

Hutchinson improves to 24-1 overall and 15-1 in Jayhawk West play. The Blue Dragons remain tied with Seward County for first place. Garden City falls to 11-14 and 6-10.

The Blue Dragons shot a season-high 59.7 percent (37 of 62), which tied for the sixth-best single-game shot percentage in team history. The Dragons shot at least 53 percent in every quarter.

Defensively, the Dragons limited Garden City to 27.1 percent shooting (16 of 59) and forced 21 Broncbusters turnovers. The Dragons also held the league's leading scorer, Talia Roberts to 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting with three turnovers.

The Blue Dragons were led by sophomore Jada Mickens, who had a perfect game shooting. Mickens was 8 of 8 shooting and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line for a game-high 21 points.

Dejanae Roebuck finished with 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting and seven rebounds. Roebuck moved up to 16th place on the Blue Dragons career scoring list and is eighth in career rebounds with 504 rebounds.

Abby Ogle had 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Tijuana Kimbro had 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting. Makayla Vannett and Keeley Tini had eight points each.

The Blue Dragons had a 58-20 advantage in points in the paint.

Hutch was only 4 of 17 from 3-point range, but hit 17 of 18 free throws. The Blue Dragons had a 43-29 rebounding advantage. The Dragons had 26 assists, but did commit 19 turnovers.

The Busters were 4 of 16 from 3-point range and 17 of 29 from the foul line.

Jaleah Bellany had 11 points for Garden City.

Tied at 4-all early in the game, the Dragons used a seven-point run on a Mickens jumper and an Ogle 3-pointer and steal and layup to build an 11-4 lead with 6:03 to play in the opening period. Leading 11-6, the Dragons outscored Garden City 13-2 over the final 5:33 of the first quarter to lead 24-8.

Hutch opened the second quarter with a 12-1 run to take full control of the game. Two Roebuck free throws helped the Blue Dragons build a 36-9 lead with 5:50 remaining in the second quarter. After an Ogle layup gave Hutch a 40-12 lead, Garden City went on an 11-2 run, but back-to-back inside baskets from Kimbro and Roebuck bumped the Dragon lead to 46-23 at halftime.

Hutchinson shot 56.3 percent in the first two quarters to 25.9 percent for Garden City.

The Blue Dragons have a quick turnaround before a Monday road trip to Pratt for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Beavers.
