The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team goes after season win No. 20 on Wednesday when the Blue Dragons take on another of the Jayhawk Conference's most-improved teams.

The No. 4-ranked Blue Dragons travel to Dodge City at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Dodge City's Student Activities Center.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:25 p.m. with Daren Dunn (play-by-play) and Glen Grunwald (analysis) calling the action. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will provide a live video stream beginning at 5:25 p.m.

The Blue Dragons take on a Dodge City team that had Seward County on the ropes on Saturday in Liberal. The Conquistadors led the Saints by 10 points at halftime before falling 63-51. The Conquistadors are 9-10 overall, but are 2-7 over their last nine games.

Hutchinson bids for its 27th 20-win season in team history on Wednesday.

With a 19-0 record and 10-0 mark in the Jayhawk West, the Blue Dragons' lead in the conference is one game over Seward County. Barton sits in third place at 6-3. The Blue Dragons will play both Seward County and Barton within the next two weeks.

The Blue Dragons are only one of four teams in the national holding opponents to less than 50 points per game. Ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA in scoring defense at 49.8 points per game allowed. Hutchinson has held nine opponents to less than 50 points in a game and 17 opponents to less than 40 percent shooting in a contest.

In 10 Jayhawk Conference games played, the Blue Dragons are allowing 55.5 points, 31.3 percent shooting and are forcing 22.6 turnovers per game.

On Saturday, Hutchinson held Pratt 32 points under its season-scoring average to 38 points and limited the Beavers to 23.1 percent shooting in a 69-38 victory at the Sports Arena. Four players scored in double figures against the Beavers led by freshman Abby Ogle's 13 points.

Dodge City comes in averaging 60.7 points per game, but hasn't reached the 60-point mark in the last four games.

One week ago, the Conquistadors dropped a 45-42 decision to Barton and then had Seward County on the ropes before falling 63-51.

Under third-year head coach Zack Loll, the Conquistadors are much-improved defensively this season. Dodge is allowing 60.5 points (sixth in the KJCCC), 36.9 percent overall shooting (ninth in KJCCC) and 28.2 percent from 3-point range (sixth in KJCCC).

Blue Dragon head coach John Ontjes is closing in on moving up the Jayhawk Conference career coaching ladder for wins. Currently with 333 wins in his 12th season at Hutchinson, Ontjes is sixth on the all-time KJCCC and Region VI coaching wins list. He is four wins shy of moving past Darren Spence into fifth place on both of those lists.
