Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team remembers the last time that Garden City came into the Sports Arena.

One year ago, the Blue Dragons were riding a sizable winning streak when Garden City came to the Arena: Final score - Garden City 56, Hutchinson 48.

The No. 4-ranked Blue Dragons look to avoid that result on Wednesday when Hutchinson plays host to the Broncbusters at 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Rusty Hilst (analysis) calling the action. The game will also be videostreamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network. The broadcast/stream begins at 5:25 p.m.

Hutchinson (17-0, 8-0 Jayhawk West) plays its third game in five days when the Busters come to town. The Blue Dragons have defeated Cowley (93-69) and Northwest Tech (105-51) to open this busy stretch.

On Monday at Northwest Tech, the Blue Dragons shot 50 percent in their second-largest offensive output of the season and had eight different players hit 3-pointers in the game. Defensively, Hutch got back on track after two sub-par games by holding the Mavericks to 27 percent shooting and forcing 18 turnovers.

With her 21 points on Monday, sophomore Dejanae Roebuck became the 29th Blue Dragon to score 700 career points. She is now 25th with 717 points.

Garden City (9-8, 4-4) is in the exact same scheduling crunch as the Blue Dragons. The Busters have dropped a pair of close games - at Butler (68-58) and Seward County (66-60) - since Saturday. Garden City led the Saints on Monday night by one point after holding Seward County to just one point in the third quarter.

Garden City has the Jayhawk Conference's leading scorer in sophomore guard Talia Roberts, who is averaging 17.5 points per game. She did not play in Monday's game against Seward County. Alyssa Boyce and Jaleah Bellany, both freshmen, are second and third on the team in scoring at 11.1 and 11.0 points per game.

Wednesday's matchup will be the 88th in series history. The Blue Dragons hold a decisive 68-19 all-time record against Garden City, including 37-5 at the Sports Arena.

With a 17-0 record, the 2018-19 Blue Dragons currently have the fifth-best start to a season and sixth-longest winning streak in team history.
