Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The No. 13-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team scored 20 points in the first 5 minutes Tuesday night and had a 25-points lead after one quarter.
The Blue Dragons shot 62.5 percent in a 35-point first quarter and never looked back as Hutchinson returned home from a 19-day, four-game road trip to run by Lamar Community College 102-35 on Tuesday at the Sports Arena.
Hutchinson improves to 6-0 overall and will play Hesston College at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lamar falls to 0-8 as Hutch moves to 5-0 all-time against the Runnin' Lopes.
The Blue Dragons posted their second margin of victory of 60 or more points this season. They defeated the Bethany JV by 75 points in the season opener on November. 1
Hutchinson tied a season high for points in a quarter with 35 in the first quarter. Dejanae Roebuck scored 14 points in that opening period to lead the Dragons. Hutchinson also had 32 points in the fourth quarter.
Despite shooting 3 for 20 in the second quarter, the Blue Dragons were in no danger of letting their big first-quarter lead slip away. Hutchinson led 49-16 at halftime, holding Lamar to 3 of 21 shooting in the first two periods.
The Blue Dragons had 11 different players score in the game and finished 40 of 84 overall (47.6 percent). The Dragons hit 13 of 31 3-pointers and 9 of 12 from the foul line. The Dragons held a 50-30 rebounding advantage and pulled down 23 offensive rebounds. Hutch had 31 assists and only 11 turnovers.
Roebuck led all scorers with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting. She had nine rebounds and two steals.
Tia Bradshaw came off the bench to hit a career-best 4 of 6 3-pointers and finish with a season-high 15 points and three assists. Also off the bench was Lauryn Mapusua, who had a season-high 13 points and seven assists. Bradshaw and Mapusua led a 46-6 advantage off the bench.
Milan Schimmel had 11 points, while Kelsey Brett hit three 3-pointers and finished with nine points. Jada Mickens had eight points and nine rebounds. Makayla Vannett also had eight points.
Lamar finished shooting 9 of 43 overall (20.9 percent), hitting 2 of 15 from 3-point range and 15 of 21 from the free-throw line. The Lopes turned the ball over 33 times.
Hanna Diaz had 13 points to lead Lamar.
