The No. 19-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team goes after its 10th-consecutive appearance in the Region VI Tournament semifinals on Monday.

Hutchinson (26-5) will meet Garden City (20-11) at 3 p.m. in the second of four quarterfinal matchups at Hartman Arena in Park City.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon Flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) at 2:50 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Rusty Hilst (analysis) calling the action. The game will also be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 2:50 p.m.

The last time the Blue Dragon women's basketball team didn't advance to the regional semifinal round was 2008, head coach John Ontjes' first season. One year later, Ontjes won the first of six Region VI championships and brought Blue Dragon women's basketball to elite status.

The Blue Dragons meet a very athletic and surging Garden City team on Monday. The Blue Dragons split with Garden City this season, winning 73-59 at Garden City. The Busters upset the Dragons 56-48 on Feb. 7 at the Arena.

Monday's quarterfinal meeting will be only the third time in series history that Hutchinson and Garden City have met in the regional tournament. The last meeting was the 2014 Region VI quarterfinals at Koch Arena – the Blue Dragons advanced with a 68-56 victory. The only other postseason meeting came in the quarterfinals in 2003. Garden City won 61-47 and went on to win that program's only Region VI championship and finish fourth in the nation at the NJCAA Tournament.

The Blue Dragons advanced to the quarterfinals with an 82-22 opening-round victory over Pratt on Thursday at the Sports Arena, Hutchinson's sixth win in a row since a two-game losing streak knocked them out of Jayhawk Conference title contention in early February.

The 22 points allowed were the second fewest points allowed by the Blue Dragons in Region VI Tournament history. The Dragons held Pratt to 10.9 percent shooting and only five total field goals, four were 3-pointers. Pratt also had 20 turnovers. Dejanae Roebuck (21 points, 15 rebounds) and Jada Mickens (11 points, 10 rebounds) both posted double-doubles. Sara Cramer hit four 3-poiners and scored 15 points. Alicia Brown came off the bench to add 12 points.

Garden City comes in 8-2 over its last 10 games.

The seventh-seeded Broncbusters advanced with a 63-52 opening-round victory over 10th-seeded Northwest Tech on Thursday in Garden City. Jada Washington had 15 points to lead Garden City. Shakendra Tilley had 14 points and Abigail Green had 13 for the Busters, who shot only 33.8 percent, but forced the Mavericks into 18 turnovers and held them to just one 3-point field goal.

The Hutchinson/Garden City winner advances to meet the Independence/Cloud County winner at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
