Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team plays during the holiday break for the 12th time in program history when the Blue Dragons play in the FSW Classic on Friday and Saturday in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Blue Dragons (9-2) will take on Santa Fe College at Noon (CT) on Friday. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Hutchinson will meet No. 21 Southwestern Florida State (13-3). Bryant and Stratton College is the fourth team in the tournament.

The Blue Dragon Sports Network will videostream both games from Florida. Steve Carpenter (play by play) and Josh Gooch (analysis) will call the action. Airtime is 10 minutes before the scheduled tipoff.

This will be the second trip to the state of Florida for the Blue Dragons in holiday games. The last time the Blue Dragons were in Florida was in 2011 when Hutchinson defeated both Hillsborough College and St. Petersburg College.

Overall in games played over the Christmas break, the Blue Dragons are 20-3 with nine-straight victories.

The Blue Dragons enter the FSW Classic on a seven-game winning streak. Hutchinson last played on December 9 when the Blue Dragons defeated Barton 72-53.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons are ranked seventh in the Jayhawk Conference in scoring offense at 69.9 points per game. Shooting 40.5 percent from the field, the Dragons are seventh in the KJCCC. Shooting 32.1 percent from 3-point range, Hutch is tied for fourth and Hutch is second in free-throw percentage at 72.2 percent.

The Dragons are second in the Jayhawk in scoring defense at 51.5 points per game allowed. The Dragons are No. 1 in the league in field-goal defense at 31.1 percent and second in 3-point defense at 32.1 percent.

Freshman Jada Mickens ranks fourth in the league in scoring and is first in rebounding at 15.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Dejanae Roebuck is 10th in the league in scoring (12.5 ppg) third in rebounding (9.4 rpg). She is also tied for third in blocks (1.2 bpg). Tia Bradshaw is third in the KJCCC in free-throw shooting (88.2 percent).

Santa Fe last played on December 16 and saw a three-game winning-streak snapped after a 65-60 loss to South Georgia Tech.

The Saints average 72.5 points per game, but allow 69.3 points per game. Santa Fe shoots 36.9 percent from 3-point range and averages 8.7 made 3-pointers per game.

Freshman Stephanie Jackson leads four Saints players averaging in double figures with 14.6 points per game. Jackson, Brianna Richardson and Julie Fournier all average at least two made 3-pointers per game.

Florida Southwestern State enters the weekend with a six-game winning streak. The Buccaneers won at Central Florida 75-54 on December 16.

FSW averages 77.3 points per game and allows 66.0 points per game. LaToya Ashman and Erna Normil lead the Buccaneers in scoring at 12.9 points per game.

After Hutchinson returns from Florida, the Blue Dragons return to Jayhawk Conference play with a road game at Cowley on Wednesday. The Dragons are next at home on January 6 against the Allen Red Devils.
