Winners of three-straight league games, the No. 12-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team begins an important stretch of games heading into the Christmas break on Wednesday.

Hutchinson will play host to the Colby Trojans at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports Arena. The game can be heard live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Rusty Hilst (analyst) calling the action. Airtime is at 5:20 p.m. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will also provide live video of the game.

After a 75-62 victory at Neosho County on Saturday, the Blue Dragons won their third-straight Jayhawk Conference game to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.

That kept the Blue Dragons two game behind league leaders Cowley and Independence, both of which are 5-0 entering play on Wednesday night. Cloud County and Seward County are tied for second at 4-1 with the Blue Dragons and Barton tied for fifth at 3-2.

After Wednesday, the Blue Dragons will play back-to-back road games against teams directly below them in the standings. On Saturday, Hutchinson travels to Garden City and on Dec. 6, the Dragons head to Butler before closing out the pre-Christmas schedule with the Barton Cougars on Dec. 9 at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons are led by freshmen Jada Mickens and Dejanae Roebuck and sophomore Alicia Brown.

Mickens is averaging 15.4 points and a league-best 10.4 rebounds per game. Roebuck is at 12.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Brown is at 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds. Brown is coming off a career-high 19 points on Saturday at Neosho County.

The Blue Dragons are now averaging 67.9 points per game, shooting 41.1 percent overall and 29.9 percent from long range. The Dragons rank fifth in the KJCCC in scoring defense at 50.9 points per game. Opponents are shooting 31.7 percent and 29.2 percent from distance.

Colby comes into Wednesday's game on a high after the Trojans won their first Jayhawk Conference game of the season after defeating Dodge City 56-54 on a buzzer-beating putback by Brooke Bixenman. The win snapped a 22-game conference losing streak for Colby dating back to last season.

The Trojans are averaging 67.6 points offensively, while shooting 30.1 percent from the floor. The Trojans are averaging nearly 14 3-point attempts per game, hitting at a 19.2 percent clip.

Tierra Itula leads five Colby players averaging 9.0 or more points per game. Itula is averaging 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Jordan Dixon is at 10.5 points. Kaitlyn Guillory is at 10.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
