Hutchinson CC Sports Information

For the second-straight season and 10th time in series history, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team and Seward County will open the Jayhawk Conference season.

The No. 12-ranked Blue Dragons travel to the No. 8 Saints for a 6 p.m. matchup on Saturday at Seward County's Green House in Liberal.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning around 7:50 p.m. Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analysis) will call the action. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will stream the game live.

Last season, the Blue Dragons and Lady Saints played three times. Seward won the conference opener in Liberal 77-70 in overtime. The Blue Dragons responded with a 74-47 victory over the Lady Saints at the Sports Arena. Then Hutchinson downed the Saints 65-44 in the Region VI Tournament championship game.

Both teams advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament a year ago.

Hutchinson takes decisive victories over the Bethany College JV and Lamar into Saturday's conference opener.

The Blue Dragons are averaging 81.5 points per game while shooting 43 percent overall and 25.8 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, Hutchinson is allowing 40.0 points per game and opponents are shooting only 27.7 percent overall and 29 percent from 3-point range.

Freshman Jada Mickens is the Dragons' leading scorer through two games at 23.0 points per game. She is shooting 64.3 percent overall and is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Alicia Brown is averaging 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Freshman Dejanae Roebuck is averaging 11 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

Seward County has decisive wins over Hesston College and Frank Phillips College in its 2-0 start. The Lady Saints are averaging 72.5 points per game. Seward is shooting 40.9 percent overall and 27.7 percent from long range.

Mollie Mounsey is one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation and returns to lead Seward County this season. She is averaging a team-high 15.5 points per game with 38.7 percent shooting from long range. Vanessa Caro is at 12.0 points per game, shooting 57.1 percent from the floor.

The Blue Dragons open the conference with three-straight road games at Seward County, Cloud County and Pratt before playing Coffeyville on Tuesday, November 21 in the home conference opener.
