DENISON, Texas – Day 1 of the Grayson Winter Blast was tough for the Hutchinson Community College softball team on Friday.

The Blue Dragons lost 7-1 to NOC-Enid and 11-3 to No. 2-nationally ranked Grayson College in their first two games. Hutchinson looks to rebound on Saturday with afternoon games against Weatherford College at 2:30 p.m. and Vernon College at 4:15 p.m.

NOC-ENID RECAP
The Blue Dragons and Jets had six hits each, bot NOC-Enid took advantage of seven walks and blew the game open with a four-run fifth.

The Dragons trailed just 3-0 through four innings. They scored their only run in the top of the fifth when Haley Miller singled up Easton Swanson with two out to cut the deficit to two runs. The Dragons couldn't come up with another big hit and left the bases loaded in the inning and stranded eight runners on base in the game.

Six different players had hits for the Blue Dragons. Allie Stipsits and Carley Sterneker had doubles.

Keirsten Weitze (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Hutchinson, working just two-thirds of an inning. She gave up two hits and two runs with one walk. Emily Munson worked 1 2-3 innings with no runs allowed. Morgan Pennycuff worked the final four innings and struck out four.

GRAYSON RECAP
The 2001 national runner-up jumped on the Blue Dragons for three runs in the top of the first inning, but Hutchinson responded and tied the game in its half of the first inning.

Natalie Bevan doubled home Haley Miller and Aspen Goetz's infield single drove in Madison Grimes to cut the Grayson lead to 3-2. The Dragons tied the game when Bevan scored in a Grayson throwing error.

Grayson had an answer of its own with two runs in the second and three more runs in the fourth to lead take a 9-3 lead.

The Blue Dragons had eight hits led by leadoff hitter Ella Dougherty's 3-for-4 performance. She had a double. Grimes was 2 for 3 for the Dragons.

Starting pitcher Sadie Loney (2-1) took the loss. She gave up eight hits and nine runs in three innings. Pennycuff worked 2 1-3 innings in relief and Munson worked two-thirds of an inning.

Grayson racked up 11 hits against the Blue Dragons.
