Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The postseason begins Friday for the Hutchinson Community College softball team as the Division I Region VI Tournament begins at Legends Park in Dodge City.

Sixth seed Hutchinson (26-14) will meet Dodge City (21-15) in the third of four opening-round games on Friday. All tournament games will be streamed by the KJCCC Network. The tournament is an eight-team, double-elimination format.

Hutchinson is looking for its first Region VI championship since 1987. The Blue Dragons have appeared in back-to-back Region VI championship games in 2017 and 2018, but that was in the Division II Tournament. The Blue Dragons returned to Division I this season after 12 years as a Division II program.

The Blue Dragons enter the postseason on a 16-game winning streak. That streak started with a pair of victories over Dodge City in the teams' only meetings of the regular season on April 5 at Fun Valley.

Alexis Way went 4 for 4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs as Hutchinson run-ruled Dodge City 11-3 in six innings. Then down to their final out in Game 2 trailing Dodge City by one run, Caitlin Schumacher's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh tied the game. Then in the ninth, Shelby Felvus scored on an A.J. Briones sacrifice fly to extremely shallow left-center field for a 7-6 victory.

Over its 16-game winning streak, the Blue Dragons are hitting .452 as a team and are averaging 10.1 runs and 13.2 hits per game.

Three different Blue Dragoons are hitting .500 or better in the winning streak.

Brynne Stockman is hitting .566 (30 for 53) with 20 runs scored and 17 RBIs. Taylor Ullery is hitting .542 (32 for 59) with 16 doubles, 31 runs scored and 15 RBIs. Maryssa Rollin is hitting .500 (20 for 40) with six home runs and 32 RBIs.

In the pitching circle, the Dragons have a team ERA of 2.04. Rollin is 7-0 with a 1.14 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 43 innings. Megan Davis is 6-0 with 37 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.

The Hutchinson/Dodge City winner plays the Butler/Garden City winner at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The losers of those opening round games play in an elimination game at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
