The Hutchinson Community College softball team will open the 2019 Region VI Division I Tournament with host Dodge City on Friday at Legends Park in Dodge City.

The official pairings for the eight-team double-elimination tournament were released. The eventual Region VI champion will play the Region IX champion in a best-of-3 bi-district series next week.

Hutchinson and Dodge City will play the third opening-round game on Friday with a scheduled 5 p.m. start.

The Blue Dragons enter the postseason riding a 16-game winning streak with a 26-14 record. The Blue Dragons finished third in the Jayhawk East with a 17-9 mark. The Blue Dragons are the sixth overall seed in the tournament.

Dodge City is 21-15 overall and second in the Jayhawk East at 14-12. The Conquistadors are the No. 3 overall seed.

Two wins over Dodge City on April 5 were the start to Hutchinson's current winning streak.

The Blue Dragons run-ruled Dodge City 11-3 in six innings at Fun Valley. The Dragons then rallied for a 7-6 come-from-behind win over the Conquistadors in Game 2, winning the game in the bottom of the eight when Shelby Felvus scored on a shallow sacrifice fly to left-center field.

The Hutchinson-Dodge City winner will meet the Butler-Garden City winner at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the winner's bracket semifinals. The losers of those two opening-round matches will meet at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.

Colby is the overall No. 1 seed. The Trojans will meet eighth-seeded Independence at 1 p.m. on Friday. No. 4 Barton plays No. 5 Seward County at 3 p.m. The Butler-Garden game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
