The first seven weeks of the 2019 softball season were nothing Hutchinson Community College freshman Maryssa Rollin to write home about.
Now finally healthy, the Blue Dragon designated player/starting pitcher from Olathe is making up for lost time.
After a monstrous offensive week last week, Rollin was named the NJCAA Division I Softball Player of the Week on Wednesday. She earned Jayhawk Conference Division I Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Rollin tied a Blue Dragon single-game record with seven RBIs, hitting a three-run home run and grand slam in a 27-2 victory over Pratt last week at Fun Valley. Adding three more RBIs in Hutch's 8-0 win in Game 2, Rollin tied a Blue Dragon doubleheader record with 10 RBIs.
Rollin missed most of the first six weeks with injuries. Since returning, Rollin is hitting .474 with 18 total hits, four home runs and 28 RBIs in 13 offensive games. She carries a seven-game hitting streak into Wednesday's games at the Sterling College JV.
For the week – four wins combined over Barton and Pratt – Rollin hit .583 (7 for 12) with a double, three home runs and 16 RBIs. Her slugging percentage was 1.417. She had at least two hits in 3 of the 4 games and drove in no less than three runs in any single game last week.
In the pitching circle this season, Rollin is now 8-1 with a 1.88 ERA.
