TOPEKA – One year ago, the Hutchinson Community College softball team saw the Cowley Tigers win three-straight games on championship Sunday to earn a berth in the NJCAA national tournament.

That's the situation the Blue Dragons now face in the Region VI-District E Tournament at Hummer Park in Topeka.

D.J. Cannon tossed a four-hit shutout for her 20th pitching win of the year as the Blue Dragons defeated Coffeyville 4-0 in the District E opener on Saturday. Then tied at 4-all in the sixth against Cowley in the winner's bracket final, The Tigers got a two-out RBI triple and defeated the Dragons 5-4.

The No. 15-ranked Blue Dragons (36-10) will now face Coffeyville (22-25) in the District E elimination game at 10 a.m. on Sunday on the north field at Hummer Park. A victory over the Red Ravens moves the Blue Dragons into a second-straight regional championship game at Noon against Cowley. The Hutch-Coffeyville winner would have to defeat Cowley twice to win the tournament.

All Sunday games will be videostreamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network. Airtime for Sunday is 9:45 a.m.

COFFEYVILLE GAME
D.J. Cannon earned her 20th victory of the season and 38th career win with a four-hit shutout. Cannon struck out six and walked two in her 20th complete game and fourth shutout of the season. Cannon allowed four singles in her second win of the season over Coffeyville.

The Dragons posted a three-run third inning to take the lead. Raven Bass drew a bases-loaded walk. Brynne Stockman had an RBI single and Natalie Semmel had a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
