The Hutchinson Community College sophomores have been waiting to return to Hummer Park for a full year now.

One year ago, as freshmen, the Blue Dragons advanced to the Region VI Tournament championship game. That hadn't been done since the last 1980s. When the dust settled at Hummer Park one year ago, the Blue Dragons fell one win short of going to the national tournament.

The No. 15-ranked Blue Dragons return to Hummer Park on Saturday to take on the Coffeyville Red Ravens in the first game of the four-team double-elimination Region VI-District E Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.

The KJCCC Network will broadcast all Blue Dragon games played on Saturday. Win or lose, Hutch will play either Cowley or Cloud County at 4 p.m. If the Blue Dragons advance to Sunday, the Blue Dragon Sports Network will pick up videostreaming coverage.

The Blue Dragons, who are the second seed in District E, advanced with a sweep of Hesston College last Saturday at Fun Valley. Hutch defeated Hesston in the first game 6-2 and needed a Brynne Stockman walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh in Game 2 to complete the sweep of the Larks, 7-6.

Coffeyville went on the road to defeat Allen 11-8 and 9-8 to advance to Topeka.

Hutchinson swept Coffeyville in the regular season with a pair of run-rule victories, 11-2 and 13-5 on March 16 at Fun Valley. The Ravens have won 6 of their last 10 games entering play on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons are hitting .369 as a team and are averaging 8.2 runs per game.

Sophomores own the four top batting averages for Hutch, led by shortstop Izzy Godinez at .421 and Kameron Pope at .420. Raven Bass, who has a single-season record-tying 15 home runs is hitting .393 and Bekah Roberts is hitting .390.

The Blue Dragons have the top team earned run average in the regional at 2.70. Sophomore D.J. Cannon is 19-4 with a 1.97 ERA and 180 strikeouts. Sophomore Destiny Schulze is 12-5 with a 2.98 ERA.

Coffeyville has posted a .349 team batting average with three sophomores posting batting averages of .380 or better. Mateighia Tanner is at .447 with 28 RBIs. Danielle Stover is at .432 and Reagan Bradley is at .382.

Alyssa is the Raven wins leader in the pitching circle. She has a record of 12-10 with a 6.25 ERA. Alexia Taylor is 6-5 with a 6.79 ERA and Bailey Naden is 2-10 with a 9.22 ERA.
