The final Jayhawk East and Region VI doubleheader of the season is a big one for the No. 17-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team

The Blue Dragons take on No. 5 Cowley College at 3 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Fun Valley. It will be Mark Borecky Construction Day with the Blue Dragons.

Hutchinson enters Tuesday's nationally ranked battle still trying to establish itself in the top four of the Jayhawk East. Going 8-2 in the last 10 games, the 29-7 Blue Dragons are currently third in the Jayhawk East 14-6 and 16-6 in the Region VI Division II standings. The Dragons are tied with Cowley in the wins column in the league. Cowley is 16-2 with six league games remaining. Highland is 16-4 in league play. Johnson County, with six league games remaining, is right behind Hutch at 11-5.

The Blue Dragons are secured into playing host to a Region VI Tournament opening-round series and can't finish any lower than fifth in both the league and region.

Tuesday's doubleheader features two of the top four offensive teams in the Jayhawk East.

The Blue Dragons are hitting .357 as a team and are averaging 7.6 runs per game. Ten Blue Dragons are hitting .350 or better led by sophomore shortstop Izzy Godinez at .438 and Kameron Pope at .395.

Cowley is hitting .393 as a team with 9.4 runs per game. Sophomore outfielders Brianna Fuchs is hitting .454 to lead the Tigers.

With sophomores D.J. Cannon and Destiny Schulze, the Blue Dragons are the No. 1-ranked pitching staff with an ERA of 2.79. Cowley ranks fifth at 3.84.
