Finally back in the field for the first time in almost a week, the Hutchinson Community College softball team hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragons travel to Great Bend at 1 p.m. on Wednesday to take on the Barton Cougars and Cougar field. Both games of the doubleheader will be video streamed by the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 12:50 p.m. with Steve Carpenter calling the action.

Wednesday's games will be the first time Hutchinson and Barton have met since 2014. Hutch hasn't defeated Barton since 2012.

The Blue Dragons come into Wednesday's 2-0 after a sweep of Pratt last Thursday at Fun Valley. Hutch won a pair of run-rule games 16-1 and 8-0.

The Blue Dragons was 23 of 46 in those two games last week with six doubles and a home run.

Sophomore Izzy Godinez was 6 for 6 with five runs and five RBIs. Freshman Kiara DeCrane was 5 for 7 with a double, homer and eight driven in in the doubleheader.

Three Hutch pitchers allowed just one earned run and only nine hits as D.J. Cannon and Destiny Schulze earned the wins. Schulze tossed her first career shutout with a career-best four strikeouts.

The Cougars have been on the field only once as well, playing Cowley at Cougar Field. Cowley won both teams 15-6 and 11-7.

Barton's offense was solid with 13 combined runs and 21 hits against Cowley.

Catcher Morgan Michaelis hit two homers and had three total hits with five RBIs. Alexis Sharples had four total hits.

Barton's pitching staff carries a 12.83 team ERA into Wednesday.

After Wednesday, the Blue Dragons will be off for nine days before heading to play Murray State on Feb. 23 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
