Sophomore Christian Darrah had a strong summer of training and it paid off Friday night at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic, the season-opening meet for the Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team.

After an injury-plagued 2022 season, Darrah posted a time of 21:47.76 on Friday to lead the Blue Dragons. Darrah placed 21st in a strong 128-runner field. The Blue Dragon sophomore did not run in last year's Masterson Classic.

With only three runners competing on Friday, the Blue Dragons did not post a team score.

Freshman Leo LeGrand placed 31st with a time of 22:15.55 over the four-mile course. Freshman David Ultreras placed 44th with a time of 23:02.22.

Fort Hays State won the team title for the second time with a team score of 26 points. Northwest Tech was second with 64 points. Tabor College was third with 90 points.

Butler's Adam Bouldjadj won the individual championship with a time of 19:19.88, the second-fastest time ever recorded in the Masterson Twilight Classic.

The Blue Dragons next compete at the Missouri Southern Stampede on September 15 in Joplin, Missouri.
