Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College cross country teams will run on Friday at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Invitational to make up for the meet the Blue Dragons lost last week at Bethel College.
The No. 8-ranked Blue Dragon women will run at Kearney's Meadowlark Hills Country Club at 5 p.m. on Friday in a scheduled 5,000-meter race. The No. 4-ranked Blue Dragon men will start at 5:40 p.m. and will run 8,000 meters.
There is no admission to the meet with fans expected to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Hutchinson and host Nebraska-Kearney were supposed to run at Bethel College last Friday, but that meet was postponed to this Saturday because of Covid-19 issues. With the Region VI Cross Country Championships coming on, Blue Dragon head coach Justin Riggs decided to run a day earlier at UNK.
The last time the Blue Dragons raced was on October 3 in the Red Devil Relays in Iola. The Blue Dragon men finished second with sophomore Teagan Flanagan earning his first career victory with the 11th-fastest 8K time in Blue Dragon history of 25:07.0. That performance netted him Jayhawk Conference, USTFCCCA and NJCAA Runner of the Week honors.
The Blue Dragon women were edged by Dodge City by one point for the women's team title. Freshman Louise Cocking was second and sophomore Sheila Too placed fourth individually.
Friday's race will be the final regular-season race before the 2020 Region VI Championships on Wednesday, October 28, in El Dorado.
