Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team remained in the Top 5 of the national rankings and sophomore Teagan Flanagan earned another national honor on Wednesday.
The Blue Dragons' runner-up finish at the Red Devil Relays cost the Blue Dragons two spots in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Division I Men's rankings. Hutchinson is now No. 4, still the highest-ranked Region VI team in the rankings.
Flanagan, on Wednesday, was named the NJCAA Men's Division I Cross Country Runner of the Week after the Blue Dragon sophomore won the Red Devil Relays – his first collegiate victory - by 22 seconds and posted the 11th-fastest 8,000-meter time in Hutchinson cross country history of 25:07.00. Earlier this week, Flanagan was named the Jayhawk Conference Runner of the Week and the USTFCCCA/NJCAA Division I Men's National Athlete of the Week.
The Blue Dragons have been ranked Nos. 3, 2 and 4 this season. This was their 13th-consecutive appearance in the National Top 10 and 16th-straight appearance in a national ranking.
Iowa Central, Iowa Western and Southern Idaho are Nos. 1, 2 and 3 ahead of the Blue Dragons. New Mexico rounds out the Top 5.
Five Region VI teams are in the Top 10 with Butler at No. 6, Cloud County at No. 7, Colby at No. 8 and Highland at No. 10. Dodge City is ranked 12th this week and Fort Scott is ranked No. 17.
The Blue Dragons will have their final tune-up before the Region VI Championships on October 28 this Friday with the Bethel Invitational in North Newton. The women's race is at 5 p.m. and men's race is at 5:45 p.m. There will be no fans allowed on the course.
