Hutchinson Community College sophomore cross country runner Teagan Flanagan has been named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association's NJCAA Division I National Male Athlete of the week on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragon sophomore earned the national honor after winning the Allen Community College Red Devil Relays on Saturday in Iola. Posting the 11th-fastest 8,000-meter time in Blue Dragon Men's Cross Country history (25:07.00), Flanagan dominated the Red Devil Relays with a 22-second victory.

So far in 2020, Flanagan has two runner-up finishes and Saturday's victory.

This is the fourth time that an athlete from Hutchinson has been named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season. Former national champion Andrew Kibet earned the honor three times during the 2018 season on September 4, October 8 and October 29.

Flanagan on Monday was named the Jayhawk Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

The Blue Dragons next compete on Friday at the Bethel Invitational in North Newton, Kansas.
