JOPLIN, Mo – Freshman Connor Kaufman was the top finisher on Saturday to lead the Hutchinson Community College men's cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the Missouri Southern State Stampede.

The Blue Dragons were running their first 8K race of the season and head coach Justin Riggs ran all freshmen on Saturday.

Hutchinson finished ninth overall with 221 points and an average time of 27:36.69. St Mary's University won the men's team title with 41 points. Butler was the men's runner-up with 129 points.

Kaufman posted a time of 27 minutes, 12.26 seconds to lead the Blue Dragons. Jared Starks was the next Blue Dragon to cross the line with a 43rd-place time of 27.24.72.

Tony Ibarra was next for Hutchinson; finishing 45th in 27:27.94, Grant Clothier was 59th with a time of 27:55.45. Kade Gerlach placed 63rd in 28:03.07and Gavin Alexander was 73rd in 28:17.19).

Other Blue Dragon performances on Saturday: Alex Perrone (106th, 29:19.68) and Myles Hansen (143rd, 30:22.98),

The Blue Dragons will run next in two weeks at the Oklahoma State Cowley Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.
