PITTSBURG – Three individual regional championships and a school record have the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team atop the team standings after Day 1 of the 2025 Region 6 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center.
Sophomores Elisha Williams and Farrin Mangelson and freshman Jayce Spencer all captured individual regional championships on Day 1 to give the Blue Dragons a 24.5 point lead with 5 of 20 events completed. The Blue Dragons lead the Region 6 team standings with 10 points. Cowley is second with 25.5 points and Butler is third with 23 points. The Dragons have 58 points to lead the Jayhawk West standings. Cloud County is second with 31 points and Garden City is third with 24 points.
Williams was the first Blue Dragon to capture a regional title and an automatic bid to the NJCAA Indoor National Championships in two weeks. Williams won the men's long jump with a school-record jump of 25 feet, 0 inches. That mark eclipsed the 1991 record of Charles Armstead (24-7 3/4).

Williams' record is the fifth school record to fall in the 2025 indoor season. Mangelson has the records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Leo LeGrand has the record in the 800 meters and David Thid is the new 400-meter record holder.
The Blue Dragons had multiple scorers in three events on Saturday.
With Williams in the long jump, the Dragons scored 14 points in the event after Malique Parkinson placed fifth with a jump of 22-11 1/4 (6.99 meters).
Hutchinson scored 23 points in the 5,000-meter finals. Mangelson won the event with a time of 15:18.47. Titus Kiprotich was second with a time of 15:18.96. Cornelius Kogo was fourth in 15:23.07.
The Dragons scored 13 points in the pole vault as Spencer won the regional championship with a personal-best height of 14-4 ½ (4.38 meters). Spencer is the 15th overall qualifier for the Blue Dragon men. Gregory Martinez was sixth in the pole vault with a height of 13-2 3/4 (4.03 meters).
The Blue Dragons advanced two athletes into Sunday's finals.
Kebba Makalo was sixth out of the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 6.78 seconds. D'Antonio Warren qualified seventh in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 21.79 seconds.
Day 2 of the Region 6 Championships begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Plater Center.
