TOPEKA – Hutchinson Community College freshman Malique Parkinson had the highest individual placing on Friday at the Washburn Rust Buster, the 2025 indoor track and field season opener for the Blue Dragons.
Parkinson placed second in the men's triple jump with a top jump of 45 feet, 8 1/2 inches (13.93 meters). Parkinson also finished 15th in the long jump at 21-6 3/4 (6.57 meters).
Parkinson was one of five top 10 placings for the Blue Dragons on Friday.
The Blue Dragon 4x400-meter relay team of Da'Shawn Lester, Lushone Blake, Kebba Makalo and Elisha Williams placed seventh with a time of 3:21.78, the 10th-fastest indoor time in Blue Dragon men's history.
Williams was seventh and Lester was ninth in the 400 meters. Williams had a time of 49.12 seconds. Lester had a time of 49.36, the seventh-fastest time in Blue Dragon history.
Richard Collins placed sixth in the high jump after clearing 5-10 3/4 (1.80 meters).
Makalo posted the 11th-fastest 200-meter time in Blue Dragon history with a time of 21.94 seconds, which was 14th on Friday. He ran 6.90 seconds in the 60 meters, which tied for 16th in Blue Dragon history and the 11th-place time on Friday.
The Blue Dragons next compete at the JUCO/NAIA Challenge on Saturday, January 25 at Pittsburg State's Robert Plaster Center.
