SEAMSTER WINS 60 METERS AT ICHABOD OPEN

TOPEKA - Hutchinson Community College sophomore sprinter Ezekiel Seamster captured his third event victory of the 2024 indoor season on Saturday at the Washburn University Ichabod Open at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.

Seamster won the men's 60 meters, edging Pratt's Joseph Michael by .004 seconds to give the Blue Dragons their only event victory with a time of 6.79 seconds. Timing down to the thousandths of a second, Seamster ran 6.782 to Michael's 6.786 in the final.

This is Seamster's third event victory of the season. Seamster won the 60 meters both on Saturday and the Herm Wilson Invitational on January 27. Seamster won the 200 meters at the Washburn Rust Buster on January 13.

Seamster, already an NJCAA Indoor qualifier, advanced to the 60-meter finals with the time preliminary time of 6.82 seconds on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons earned their eighth national qualifier of the 2024 indoor season on Saturday when Ty'Rique Roland cleared 6 feet, 8 inches to finish second in the Ichabod men's open high jump. That qualifying mark ranks No. 7 in the NJCAA this season.

Other Blue Dragon top performances on Saturday:

+ Rickyle Telemaque finished ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.27 seconds, which ranked sixth in Blue Dragon indoor history.

+ Leo LeGrand missed qualifying in the Mile run by .40 seconds, finishing ninth on Saturday with a time of 4:18.62. That time is the sixth fastest indoor Mile time in Blue Dragon history.

+ Farrin Mangelson placed 12th in the Mile run with a time of 4:19.62, which is the eight-best time in program history.

+ Elisha Wilson placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.93.

+ NJCAA pole vault leader Chris Johnson was eighth in the Open pole vault at 14-9.

The Blue Dragons will compete in the 2024 Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 17-18 at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.
