TOPEKA – Elisha Williams and D'Antonio Warren punched tickets to the 2024 NJCAA Indoor Championships and pole vaulter Chris Johnson set a school record on Saturday to pace the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team at the Washburn Open.

Williams fell just short of a school record in the 400 meters after a second-place time of 48.21 seconds, which surpassed the 2024 NJCAA qualifying standard. Williams was just .01 second off the 1987 record of Terry Sullivan.

Warren qualified for nationals in the 200 meters after a 15th-place performance on Saturday. Warren ran a time of 21.67 seconds, which is the fourth-fastest indoor 200 time in Blue Dragon history. Warren on Friday posted the 12th-fastest 60-meter time and was just .04 seconds off the national qualifying standard with a preliminary qualifying time of 6.87 seconds.

Johnson, who has already qualified for nationals in the pole vault, eclipsed the Blue Dragon indoor pole vault record of Andrew Pope, clearing 15 feet, 8 inches (4.80m), which was good for sixth place on Saturday.

The Blue Dragon 4x400-meter relay posted the fourth-fastest time in men's indoor history on Saturday. The Blue Dragon relay team of Rickyle Telamaque, Williams, Omari Smith and David Thid placed fifth on Saturday with a time of 3:18.38.

Through four indoor meets this season, the Blue Dragon men have eight national qualifiers.

Hutchinson returns to Topeka next weekend to compete in the Ichabod Open at Washburn's Indoor Athletic Facility.
