DRAGON MEN CLAIM 2 EVENT TITLES, 9TH NJCAA QUALIFER

WINFIELD – Sophomores Alexander Holt and Sharim Hamilton won events and the 4x100-meter relay qualified for the NJCAA Championships on Saturday at the Mike Kirkland/Southwestern Relays at Jantz Stadium.

Holt claimed the men's high jump title after clearing 6 feet, 0 3/4 inches on Saturday. Holt also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles after a time of 14.74 seconds.

Hamilton, who is already a national qualifier, won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.24 seconds.

The Blue Dragons earned their ninth national qualifier for the 2023 championships by finishing third in the 4x100 relay on Saturday. The relay team of Omari smith, Hamilton, Cameron Campbell and Ezekiel Seamster posted a season-best time of 41.44 seconds.

The Blue Dragons had two event runner-up performances at Southwestern.

Seamster finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.67 seconds. Seamster ran the top time out of qualifying of 10.72 seconds.

The Blue Dragons had four Top 8 placers in both the long and triple jumps.

Sophomore Caleb Manning placed third in the triple jump at 47-1 (14.35m). Adrian Dimond was fifth at 43-5 (13.23m). James Knowles and Jack Losew tied for seventh at 41-5 1/4 (12.63m).

Manning was fourth in the long jump at 21-10 1/4 (6.66m). Dimond was fifth at 21-7 1/2 (6.59), which is a PR. Losew was seventh at 21-2 3/4 (4.67m) and Dimetre Browne was eighth at 21-0 1/2 (6.41m).

The Dragons had three pole vaulters place in the Top 5. Nathaniel Hein placed second after clearing 13-7 1/4 (4.15m). Braden Peterson was fourth, also clearing 13-7 1/4. Tanner Tustain was fifth at 12-7 1/2 (3.85m).

Sophomore Donovan Bryant placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.26 seconds.

Freshman Noah Raigoza placed fourth in the javelin with a top throw of 150-11 (46.00m).

Wesley Miller posted a PR in the shot put at 40-9 1/2 (12.43m).

Smith was eighth in the 200 meter after a time of 22.24 seconds.

The Blue Dragons run the Region VI Championships next weekend at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville.
