HAMILTON WINS KT WOODMAN 400 HURDLES

WICHITA – Sophomore Sharim Hamilton had the top individual performance for the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team at the KT Woodman Classic by winning the 400-meter hurdles on Saturday.

Running the final of five sections from Lane 7, the Blue Dragon sophomore ran a career-best time of 53.08 seconds to win the event at Wichita State's Cessna Stadium. Already a national qualifier, Hamilton bettered his career-best time in the event by .78 seconds and is now ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA.

Hamilton was one of five Top 10 finishes for the Blue Dragons over the two days of the KT Woodman Classic, which featured NCAA Division I and Division II teams as well as NAIA and NJCAA competition.

Saturday started strong as the 4x100 relay team placed fifth overall. The relay of Omari Smith, Dimetre Browne, Cameron Campbell and Ezekiel Seamster ran a time of 42.00 seconds.

The Blue Dragons had two athletes reach the finals of the long jump. Browne placed fifth overall with a jump of 23 feet, 1.5 inches (7.05m). Caleb Manning was seventh at 22-6 (6.86m)

Freshman Adrian Dimond made the finals of the triple jump and placed seventh overall with a PR performance of 44-3.5 inches (13.50m).

The Blue Dragons earned one new national qualifier at the KT Woodman Classic. Sophomore Carsyn Turpin qualified in the 10,000-meters, which was ran on Friday night) with a PR time of 33:36.24.

Five different Blue Dragon athletes posted PRs in the 100 meters on Saturday – Seamster ran a 10.69, Campbell a 10.93, Smith an 11.08, Tracey Mason an 11.84 and A.J. Weninger a 12.04.

Campbell posted a career-best time in the 200 of 22.67 seconds.

Tokiwa Armstrong ran a PR in the 800 meters of 2:01.75.

Christian Darrah had a PR in the 5,000 meters on Friday night of 15:40.81.

Tanner Tustain cleared a personal best in the pole vault of 13-3.5 (4.05m).

Braydon Peterson PR'ed in the javelin on Friday with a throw of 126-11 (38.68m).

The Blue Dragons next compete at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday in North Newton.
