DRAGON MEN PLACE 7TH IN REGION VI CHAMPIONSHIPS

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

PITTSBURG – Led by Alexander Holt's regional runner-up performance in the high jump, the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team scored in five events and placed seventh in the 2023 Region VI Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center.

The Blue Dragons scored 63 team points in the regional men's standings. Fort Scott won the men's team championship with 117 points, narrowly defeating Cloud County by 0.5 points. Barton was third with 113 points.

Holt had a career-best day in the high jump in leading the Blue Dragons on Sunday by clearing 6 feet, 6.25 inches (1.99m), which was second in the region and a national qualifying mark.

Sophomore Caleb Manning placed third in the triple jump on Sunday. He cleared 47 feet, 6 inches (14.48m). Manning finished fifth in the long jump on Saturday to score 10 points in the meet.

Sophomore Sharim Hamilton placed fourth in the 800 meters with a PR time of 48.60 seconds.

Sophomore Donovan Bryant placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2.5 (1.89m).

Christopher Brown placed sixth in the shot put after a top thew of 50-4.75 (15.36m).

The 4x800-meter relay team of Christian Darrah, Douwe Bentsink, Tokiwa Armstrong and Even Avitia placed fifth with a time of 8:15.49.

Next up for the Blue Dragons is the NJCAA Indoor National Championship on March 4-5 at Washburn University in Topeka. The Dragons have nine national qualifiers who will compete in two weeks.
