BROWNE WINS REGION VI LONG JUMP TITLE

PITTSBURG – Sophomore Dimetre Browne won the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team's first individual regional championship on Friday at the Region VI Indoor Championship at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center.

Browne won the Region VI long jump with a jump of 24 feet, 5 inches (7.44m), which is a PR for the St. Kitts product. Browne also tied Eron Phillips (2009) for the No. 3 on the all-time Blue Dragon indoor performance charts.

Caleb Manning placed fifth in the long jump with a PR of 23 feet, 7.75 inches (7.13m). Both Brown and Phillips have already qualified for nationals.

The Blue Dragons scored points in four events on Saturday and is seventh after Day 1 with 35.5 points.

Thrower Christopher Brown placed fifth in the weight throw with a PR throw of 56 feet, 5 inches (17.19m). That was the third-longest throw in Blue Dragon indoor history. Brown is a two-event qualifier already for the NJCAA Championships.

Freshman Brayden Peterson had his best finish in the pole vault with a fourth-place performance on Saturday. Peterson cleared 13 feet, 6.5 inches (4.13m). Nathaniel Hein placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 13-0.75 (3.98m).

The Blue Dragon men's Distance Medley Relay placed fourth on Saturday. The relay team of Douwe Bentsink, Tracey Mason, Evan Avitia and Cristian Darrah ran a time of 10:43.93.

Sophomore Carsyn Turpin posted the ninth-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history in the 5,000 meters. Turpin placed 11th with a time of 15:41.25.

Day 2 of the Region VI Indoor Championships is Sunday in Pittsburg.
