WICHITA – Sophomore Ezekiel Seamster and freshman Nathaniel Hein had weekends to remember after the Hutchinson Community College indoor track and field athletes qualified for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships after competing last weekend at the Herm Wilson Invitational at Wichita State's Heskett Center.

Seamster, a Hutchinson High product, won the Herm Wilson 60-meter dash with a time 6.82 seconds Saturday, 0.001 second faster than runner-up by Bethel's Trey Palmer. Seamster's time tied for the eighth-best 60-meter time in Blue Dragon indoor history.

Hein, a freshman from Hillsboro, cleared 14 feet, 7.5 inches (4.46 meters) to become the fifth Blue Dragon to qualify for nationals this season and third at the Herm Wilson Invitational.

Sophomore Caleb Manning qualified in the triple jump on Friday.

The Blue Dragon men had seven more Top-10 finishes on Saturday.

Super sophomore Sharim Hamilton was the second Blue Dragon to win an event at the Herm Wilson on Saturday. Hamilton won the 400 meters with a time of 49.88 seconds. That time is the fifth-best time in the 400 in indoor team history.

Sophomore Christopher Brown, who qualified for nationals in the men's shot put last week, finished in second a season-best throw 51 feet, 0.75 inches (15.56 meters).

Super sophomore Darrien Holloway took third in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds. Teammate Alexander Holt finished in fifth with a time of 8.46 seconds. Holloway recorded the ninth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles in the indoor team history. Holt also finished tied for 10th in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-10.75 (1.85 meters).

Blue Dragon super sophomore Brayden Peterson finished in 10th in the pole vault by clearing 14-7.5 (4.16 meters).

Freshman Christian Darrah placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:13.11. Sophomore Carsyn Turpin took 11th with a time of 9:16.93.

The Blue Dragon indoor track and field team heads to Topeka Friday and Saturday for the Washburn Open.
