WICHITA - Hutchinson Community College sophomore Caleb Manning became the third Blue Dragon athlete to qualify for nationals and the second Dragon to win an event this season on Friday at the Wichita State Herm Wilson Invitational at the Heskett Center.

Manning won the triple jump with a national-qualifying leap of 46 feet, 8.25 inches (14.23m). Manning joins Dimetre Browne (long jump) and Christopher Brown (shot put).

Manning hit his national-qualifying mark on his second attempts in the preliminary round. Manning, who is now a two-time national qualifier, had a top jump in the finals of 46-4.75.

The Blue Dragons had two athletes finish in the Top 5 of the triple jump on Friday. Adrian Dimond placed fifth with a jump of 44-2.75

The Dragons had athletes in just two events on Friday.

Brown placed sixth in the men's eight throw with a top effort of 48 feet, 10 inches.

Wesley Miller played 23rd at 38-7 and Noah Raigoza was 30th at 35-9.

The Blue Dragons begin Day 2 of the Herm Wilson Invitational at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
