BROWNE POSTS MEET RECORD; DRAGONS QUALIFY 2 IN ’23 OPENER

TOPEKA – Returning All-American Dimetre Browne got off to a fast start on Saturday to lead the Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team at the Washburn Rust Buster Classic.

The Blue Dragon sophomore won the Rust Buster men's long jump, doing so with a meet record and NJCAA national qualifying mark.

Browne had a top jump of 24 feet, 3.75 inches to win the event by 2.75 inches. That mark smashed the Rust Buster meet record and was the fourth-best Blue Dragon men's indoor long jump mark in program history.

The Blue Dragons earned two national qualifiers in the 2023 season opener on Saturday.

The other qualifier did so in his Blue Dragon debut as Christopher Brown finished fifth in the men's shot put with a national qualifying mark of 50 feet even.

The Blue Dragons had several other strong performances in the 2023 indoor season debut.

+ Sophomore Darrien Holloway earned a spot in the 60-meter hurdle finals. He finished seventh in the finals with a time of 8.41 seconds. He qualified for the finals with the fifth-best time, 8.42 seconds.

+ Sophomore Alex Holt just missed the finals by one spot with a ninth-place preliminary time of 8.60 seconds.

+ Holt and Donovan Bryant tied for eighth in the men's high jump. Both Blue Dragon athletes cleared 6 feet, 2.75 inches.

+ Sophomore Caleb Manning placed fourth in the triple jump with a top jump of 46 feet, 4.25 inches. Freshman Adrian Dimond was eighth in the triple jump at 44-7.5.

The Blue Dragons travel to Herm Wilson Invitational next Friday and Saturday at Wichita State University's Heskett Center.
