LAWRENCE – For the second consecutive week, Hutchinson Community College sophomore Andrew Kibet set a Blue Dragon Track and Field indoor record.
Kibet broke the Blue Dragon indoor 800-meter record Friday at the Jayhawk Invitational and the University of Kansas' Anschutz Pavilion. One week ago, Kibet broke the Blue Dragon 600-meter record at the Shocker Prelude in Wichita.
Running the indoor 800 for the first time in competition – Kibet didn't run the 2019 indoor season as a freshman because of injury – Kibet on the Friday PM session with a school-record and NJCAA national qualifying time of 1:53.92.
Kibet bested the 2012 record of Julio Martinez, who ran 1:54.19 at the NJCAA Championships.

Kibet's adjusted 800 time – indoor track times are adjusted for track size and banking – Kibet has the No. 1 time in the nation of 1:52.32.
Other Blue Dragon performances at the Jayhawk Invitational:
+ Sophomore Brett Hillabrand finished second in the 1,000-meter PM session with a time of 2:36.22. His adjusted time of 2:34.10 makes him Hutchinson's fifth men's NJCAA qualifier.
+ Freshman Jacob Mcelhanon was third in the AM session mile run with a time of 4:38.93.
+ Freshman Jovan Jackson was fourth in the AM session 400 meters with a time of 51.43.
+ Freshman Teagan Cunningham was fifth in the AM session 3,000 meters with a time of 8:59.83.
+ Hutchinson's Distance Medley Relay – Hillabrand, Jackson, Zach Haxtun and Flanagan – played sixth in 10:53.65.
+ Sophomore Sylvestre Kibarar placed seventh in the PM session of the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:42.23.
+ Sophomore Jared Scott advanced to the AM session 60 meters with a time of 6.83 seconds. He was eighth in the finals in 6.95 seconds.
+ Elijah Fisher was ninth in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet 1.5 inches.
+ Haxtun placed 10th in the AM session 800 with a time of 2:09.38.
The Blue Dragons will compete next Saturday at the Gorilla Invitational in Pittsburg.
