For the second time in four years, the Hutchinson Community College men's and women's track and field teams swept team academic honors with the best aggregate grade-point averages in the nation, according to the NJCAA Track and Field Coaches Association All-Scholar Teams.
The Blue Dragon men posted the best team GPA in the NJCAA for the fourth time in the last five seasons with a stellar 3.906 aggregate GPA. The only break in that streak was a second-place finish in 2017. Lansing was the team runner-up at 3.644.
The Blue Dragon women won the team GPA award for the first time since 2015 with a GPA of 3.961. Lasing Community College was second at 3.748
The NJCAA Track and Field Coaches Association takes the Top 10 GPA's from each team for the spring semester to compute Team GPA for the team scholar award.
The Blue Dragon men and women had a combined 14 individual 4.0 GPAs and 20 combined athletes earn spots on the Association's All-Scholar Team.
The Hutchinson teams had three two-time scholar All-Americans. Brendon Horyna and Maggie Lambert are two-time 4.0 scholar-athletes. Trey Teeter is a two-time scholar-athlete with GPAs of 3.79 and 3.73.
To earn individual academic honors, student athletes had to post a minimum 3.40 GPA. Nineteen HutchCC student-athletes reached 3.40 or better in the 2017 season.
