Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Javelin thrower Anthony Gallardo leads a group of 18 Hutchinson Community College qualifiers into the 2018 NJCAA Men's Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning Thursday.

The Blue Dragons won't have to go far from home to compete. The 2018 Championships are at BG Products Stadium in El Dorado. The event is being hosted by Butler Community College.

Six of the Hutchinson men's qualifiers open action on Thursday opening up with triple-event qualifier Richards Newman in the men's long jump.

Region VI javelin champion Anthony Gallardo is the highest-ranked athletes for the No. 10-ranked Blue Dragons. Gallardo is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA after a throw of 203 feet, 10 inches. Gallardo is one of only two NJCAA athletes this season to break the 200-foot plateau this season. Gallardo will compete at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Teammate Trey Teeter will join Gallardo on Saturday in the javelin.

Newman is the other Blue Dragon Region VI champions in action this weekend. Newman is fourth in the nation in the high jump after clearing 7 feet one-half inch. He competes in the high jump at 11 a.m. on Friday.
