Breaking a school record and posting the fourth fastest 200 meter time this season netted Hutchinson Community College freshman Alex Grays the Jayhawk Conference Men's Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week award, the league announced on Friday.

Last week at the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic, Grays ran a time of 21.33 seconds. That bested the 11-year-old record set by Blue Dragon national champion Teddy Poole ran rank 21.40 to win the 2007 NJCAA title.

Running against NCAA Division I sprinters, Grays posted the second-fastest time of the meet. The only runner to beat Grays was Pittsburg State's NaRon Rollins, who ran 21.24 on his home track Friday.

Two weeks ago, Blue Dragon Richard Newman was the conference's field athletic of the week.

Grays and the Blue Dragons will compete in the Region VI Indoor Championships on Sunday at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan.
