PITTSBURG – Pittsburg State University's Plaster Center is considered to be one of the fastest indoor tracks in the country.

Hutchinson Community College freshman sprinter Alex Grays thinks go.

On Friday at the Gorilla Classic, Grays broke the Blue Dragons indoor 200-meter record by .07 seconds and placed second overall in a field that has several Division I runners competing.

Grays, already a national qualifier in both the 60 and 200 meters ran a time of 21.33 seconds. That ties for the third fastest 200-meter time in NJCAA Division I this season.

Grays bested the 11-year-old record set by Blue Dragon national champion Teddy Poole ran rank 21.40 to win the 2007 NJCAA title.

The only runner to beat Grays on Friday was Pittsburg State's NaRon Rollins, who ran 21.24 on his home track Friday.

Grays also qualified for the 60-meter finals after a the eighth fastest preliminary time of 6.85 seconds.

The Blue Dragons picked up one new qualifier on Friday as the Distance Medley Relay punched its ticket. The relay team of Jason Luft, Elijah Smith, Fred Gonsalvies and Connor Kaufman finished sixth overall in a national qualifying time of 10 minutes, 37.08 seconds.

Sophomore sprinter Kadrin Williams posted a PR in the 200 on Friday. He finished sixth in a time of 22.00 seconds.

More Blue Dragons will be in action on Saturday and another group of Hutchinson athletes will be at the highland Challenge. This weekend is the final weekend of the indoor regular season. Next week the Blue Dragons will compete in the Region VI Championships at Highland and Manhattan.
