WICHITA – The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team had a rough opening day of the Central District Tournament Championship at Crestview Country Club's North course on Monday.

The Blue Dragons posted teams rounds of 289 and 308 on Monday for a 36-hole total of 31-over par 607. The Blue Dragons are in fifth place, 22-strokes off the pace set by Dodge City, which leads the tournament through two rounds.

The third and final round will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Crestview North. The Blue Dragons will be paired with Iowa Western and Barton.

The Blue Dragons must finish in the Top 5 after Tuesday's final round to automatically qualify for their 22nd consecutive and 25th overall NJCAA Championship. The Blue Dragons own a four-stroke lead over sixth-place Barton and eight-stroke lead over seventh-place Kansas City.

Dodge City leads the team title chase with a 585 total after two runs. The Conquistadors had rounds of 295 and 290. Indian Hills is three strokes behind at 588 (291-297). Garden City is third at 589 (295-294). Iowa Western is fourth at 599 (294-305).

Coffeyville's Braden Smith leads in the district individual standings at 1-under 143 (72-71). Thirteen players are within five strokes of the lead.

Only one Blue Dragon is in the Top 10 individually.

Freshman Alex Lindstrom is in a four-way tie for ninth place at 3-over 147. Lindstrom posted rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday.

Freshman Marco Anderson is tied for 20th at 152. Anderson posted rounds of 73 and 79 in the first two rounds.

Sophomore Dominic Clemons and freshman Kalle Svederman are tied for 28th at 154. Clemons had rounds of 76 and 78 on Monday. Svederman posted back-to-back 77s.

Sophomore Blake Saffell is tied for 41st with consecutive rounds of 79 for a 36-hole total of 158.

Blue Dragon individual Louis Galvin is tied for 23rd at 153 after rounds of 79 and 74. Individual player Brooks Sauder had a 3-over 75 in the morning round, but struggled in the afternoon with a 90. He is tied for 53rd at 165.
