NEWTON – Bidding for its fourth-consecutive conference championship, the No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team takes a 20-stroke lead into the final round Tuesday at the Jayhawk Championship at Sand Creek Station.

The Blue Dragons posted rounds of 289 and 288 to finish the first 36 holes at 1-over 577. No. 3 nationally ranked Dodge City shot 597 (301-296) on Monday.

The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event starts at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Dragons lead Dodge City 15.5-15.4 in the KJCCC team standings after two tournaments.

The Dragons opened a 12-stroke lead after 18 holes after posting a 1-over 289. The Blue Dragons counted rounds form Alex Lindstrom (71), Marco Anderson (72), Dominic Clemons (73) and Louis Galvin (73). Hutchinson counted rounds from Lindstrom (71), Clemons (71), Blake Saffell (71) and Anderson (75) to finish at even-par 288.

The Blue Dragons will be paired with Dodge City and Barton in the final round on Tuesday.

The individual leaderboard is tight with a tie for first place and 12 players within five strokes of the lead after 36 holes.

Lindstrom is tied with Barton's Worathan Thammachonecharoen at 2-under 142. Both players carded back-to-back 71s on Monday.

Clemons is two strokes behind the leaders at even-par 144. Clemons is tied for third with Coffeyville's Braden Smith.

Saffell is seventh after two rounds at 2-over 146. Saffell had rounds of 75 and 71.

Anderson is eighth individually at 3-over 147.

Galvin is tied for 21st at 156 after rounds of 73 and 83 on Monday.

Blue Dragon individuals Kalle Svederman and Brooks Sauder are tied for 21st and tied for 25th after 36 holes.

Svederman was tied for the lead after the opening round with a 71. He struggled in the second round with an 85. Sauder carded rounds of 82 and 76.

Lindstrom and Saffell entered the Jayhawk Championship in a three-way tie for first in the KJCCC season standings with 14 points each. Dodge City's Arthit Kruaprayong is the other player in that tie. Anderson is fourth in the league standing with nine points. Clemons is ninth with 6.5 points.
