ST. CHARLES, Missouri – The NJCAA No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team quickly jumped into first place in the final round of the spring season-opening Lindenwood Invitational and opened leads as large as 10 strokes on Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons then saw that cushion shrink to two strokes with four holes to play in the cold playing conditions.
Hutchinson got a key birdies from freshman Alex Lindstrom and key pars on the final holes from Dominic Clemons, Louis Galvin and Blake Saffell to hold on for the team championship, the Dragons' first team title and fourth Top 5 finish of the 2022-23 season.
Clemons won his second individual title on Tuesday, taking the Lindenwood title by two strokes over Lindstrom. Three Blue Dragon finished in the Top 10.
The Blue Dragons shot a tournament-low team round of 291 on Tuesday, eight strokes better than Monday. The Blue Dragons overcame a three-stroke deficit and surged past Lindenwood early in the round.
The Blue Dragons defeated Lindenwood 590-592. The Dragons defeated District III rival Indian Hills by 19 strokes. The Warriors shot a 306 on Tuesday and finished at 609.
Clemons was the only golfer over the two rounds to post a round under par, closing the tournament with a 1-under round of 70 on Tuesday. Clemons had three birdies, two bogeys and 15 par, finishing his round with a birdies and five-straight pars. Clemons had a two-round total of 142.
Lindstrom shot even-par 71 on Tuesday and finished second, his highest career individual finish. Finishing at 144, Lindstrom had four birdies, two bogies and a double bogey. Lindstrom rallied from the double bogey on 17 with a birdie on the final hole to finish the round even par.
Galvin shot five strokes better on Tuesday and jumped into a tie for ninth place at 149. Galvin shot a 1-over 72 with four birdies and five bogeys.
Marco Anderson and Saffell both shot 78s on Tuesday. Anderson tied for 26th after a 36-hole total of 155. Saffell tied for 33rd at 157.
Individual player Brooks Sauder shot an 84 on Tuesday. He tied for 43rd at 160.
Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the tournament was changed to 36 holes because of cold temperatures.
