ST. CHARLES, Missouri – Battling frigid conditions at Missouri Bluffs Country Club, the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team overcame a slow start to be in contention of the Lindenwood Invitational on Monday.

The Blue Dragons trail tournament host Lindenwood by three strokes after the first day. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes because of the cold weather. The final 18 holes will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons posted a 15-over 299 on Monday on the par-71 Missouri Bluffs course on Monday. Lindenwood shot a 296 on in the opening round. The Blue Dragons trailed by as many as 10 strokes through six holes, but played par golf over the next six holes to climb back into contention.

All-American Dominic Clemons led the Blue Dragons with a 1-over par 72 on Monday. Starting the shotgun round on the fifth hole, Clemons was 3-over after four holes. He birdied No. 13 and had an eagle on No. 1 to get back to even. Clemons had a bogey on his last hole of the day to finish with a 72. Clemons is tied for second in the individual standings.

Freshman Alex Lindstrom is fourth individually after a posting an opening-round 73. Lindstrom had three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

Freshmen Marco Anderson and Louis Galvin are tied for 20th after rounds of 77. Sophomore Blake Saffell is tied for 34th after a 79.

Individual player Brooks Sauder is tied for 14th after the opening round shooting a 76. He leads all individual players after 18 holes.

District III rival Indian Hills is third in the team standings after shooting a 303 on Monday. Williams Woods and Purdue-Northwest is tied for fourth at 311.

Lindenwood's Sil Beyers was the only golfer to shoot even par on Monday with a 71 to lead the tournament.
