PERCY CARDS CAREER-LOW ROUND ON DAY 1 AT NJCAA’S

LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore Matt Percy carded a career-low round of 5-under 67 on Tuesday and is just one stroke of the individual lead after 18 holes at the 2018 NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at The Rawls Course.

Percy was the only Blue Dragon to shoot under par on Tuesday and led the Blue Dragons to a 5-over 293 team score. The Blue Dragons are tied with Scottsdale and Coastal Alabama for 12th place. Iowa Western leads the tournament at 11-under 277.

NJCAA GOLF RESULTS

Percy opened his round with four-straight pars before a bogey on No. 5. He then posted birdies on 3 of the next 4 holes to finish the front nine at 2-under par.

Percy then carded an eagle on the par-5 521-yard 11th hole to go to 4-under for the round. Percy followed with birdies at Nos. 12 and 14 before a bogey on No. 15. He closed with three-straight pars to post a career-low 67.

The Blue Dragon sophomore is the highest-placing Blue Dragon after one round since Ryley Haas was tied for second in 2011.

Sophomores Cole Gritton and Doug Rios-Ceballos are tied for 69th at 3-over 75.

Gritton was 5-over through 16 holes before closing with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18. Rios-Ceballos had three birdies, two bogies and two double bogeys.

Andrew Rios-Ceballos had a 4-over 76 and Max Smith shot 8-over 80 on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons have early tee times starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
