WICHITA – The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team had its best round of the spring, but had its second-straight third-place team finish in a conference tournament.

Sophomore Doug Rios-Ceballos finished second overall and the No. 9-ranked Blue Dragons finished third at Jayhawk No. 2, the second of three conference designated tournaments in the 2018 season.

The Blue Dragons shot the best team round of the tournament at Crestview Country Club's south course posting a 293 in Monday's second round. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to overcome an 11-stroke hole the Dragons had after a 307 in the first round. Hutchinson finished at 600, just four strokes behind Dodge City and Barton, which tied for the team title at 596.

Heading into next week's Jayhawk Championship, the Blue Dragons have amassed 12 team points. The third-place Blue Dragons trail Dodge City by 3.5 points and Barton by 2.5 points.

Individually, Rios-Ceballos scored his first conference points of the season with a second-place finish at 3-over 145 on the par-71 Crestview South course. Rios-Ceballos started with a 73 and closed with a 72. Rios-Ceballos finished six strokes behind Dodge City's Saksit Jairak, who shot 3-under 139. Rios-Ceballos is tied fifth in the Jayhawk Conference season standings with nine points.

Sophomore Matt Percy was the only other Blue Dragon to finish in the Top 10 on Monday. Percy finished in a four-way tie for seventh on Monday at 152. Percy opened the day with a 78, but cut six strokes in the second round with a 1-over 72. Percy is tied for third in the conference standings with 9.5 points.

Andrew Rios-Ceballos finished tied for 11th at 150. He had rounds of 77 and 75. Freshman Max Smith tied for 13th at 153 after rounds of 79 and 74. Both are tied for 13th in the Jayhawk Standings with 1.2 points.

Sophomore Cole Gritton tied for 18th after shooting 155. Gritton had rounds of 79 and 76.

The Jayhawk Conference championship will be 54 holes at Auburn Hills Country Club in Wichita on Monday and Tuesday.
