DRAGONS TIED FOR 5TH AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT NEWMAN INVITE

WICHITA – Under tough scorning conditions on Monday, the No. 6-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team is still within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard at the Newman University Fall Invitational at Crestview Country Club.

Playing their first fall tournament of the season, the Blue Dragons shot rounds of 309 and 305 for a 36-hole total of 614. Hutchinson is tied with Oklahoma Christian University. The Blue Dragons trail Southeastern Oklahoma State and Central Oklahoma by 12 strokes.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament will be on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.

Individually, sophomore Matt Percy overcame a tough opening round with a 1-over 73 in the afternoon round. That put him in a fifth-place tie after 36 holes at 151. Central Oklahoma's Nick Pierce shot a 4-under 68 in the second round and leads the field by three strokes at 141.

Sophomore Doug Rios-Ceballos is tied for 16th after making a seven-stroke improvement between rounds on Monday. After starting the tournament with an 80, Rios-Ceballos shot a 1-over 73 to finish at 153 after two rounds.

Sophomore Cole Gritton is tied for 19th after rounds of 73 and 81 for a 36-hole total of 154. Andrew Rios-Ceballos is tied for 35th had rounds of 78 and 80 for a 158. Freshman Joseph O'Neill had rounds of 80 and 79 to close at 159, which is 44th place.
