Heading into its first action of the 2017 fall season, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team moved up four spots in Friday's Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches Poll.
The Blue Dragons are No. 6 in the Golfweek poll. They are ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division I Coaches Poll, which was released last week.
Hutchinson is starting its fall season in October this season, playing at the Newman University Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Crestview Country Club. With 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts each day, the Blue Dragons will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons are the highest-ranked Jayhawk Conference team in the Golfweek poll. Dodge City dropped three spots to No. 8.
Indian Hills remains the No. 1 team in the country receiving 5 of 6 first-place votes.
Head coach Chris Young, who begins his 19th season with the Blue Dragons, has four players back from 2016-17.
Both Cole Gritton and Doug Rios-Ceballos tied for 51st last season at the NJCAA Championships. Matt Percy was 73rd. Andrew Rios-Ceballos wasn't in the group of five who played at nationals, but played plenty as an individual player last season.
Joining the Blue Dragons in 2017-18 are sophomore Mason Jowsey and freshmen Lake Leroux, Joseph O'Neill and Max Smith.
The Blue Dragons will play in Council Bluffs, Iowa, one tournament in Oklahoma and two in Texas in the fall season, which concludes with the Dr. Pepper Classic on Oct. 30-31 in Waco, Texas.
The next Bushnell/Golfweek poll will be released on October 20.
