The start of the fall season is less than two weeks away, but the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team picked up its second Top 10 national ranking on Tuesday.
The Blue Dragons start the 2017-18 season ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Rankings. Hutchinson is preseason No. 10 in the Bushnell/Golfweek Rankings, which were released in August.
The Blue Dragons finished 11th in the 2017 NJCAA Tournament after second-place finishes behind Dodge City in both the Jayhawk Conference season race and Region VI Tournament.
Head coach Chris Young, who begins his 19th season with the Blue Dragons, has four players back from 2016-17.
Both Cole Gritton and Doug Rios-Ceballos tied for 51st last season at the NJCAA Championships. Matt Percy was 73rd. Andrew Rios-Celballos wasn't in the group of five who played at nationals, but played plenty as an individual player last season.
Joining the Blue Dragons in 2017-18 are sophomore Masey Jowsey and freshmen Lake Leroux, Joseph O'Neill and Max Smith.
The Jayhawk Conference and District III are both well represented in the first national rankings of the season.
Indian Hills is the preseason pick to win the national championship. Iowa Western is ranked No. 6, Dodge City is No. 8 and Barton is ranked No. 17.
Hutchinson opens the season on October 2nd and 3rd at the Newman University Fall Invitational in Wichita.
